What is Worship like at Holy Spirit?

Holy Spirit is an Episcopal Church which means that it is a member of the Worldwide Anglican Communion (Church of England). We use The Order of Service that comes from The Episcopal Book of Common Prayer and most of the music comes from The Hymnal 1982 with the exception of 4th Sundays when we have a more contemporary worship.

A typical service has two main sections: the Liturgy of the Word and the The Great Thanksgiving (Holy Communion).

When you walk into the Sacred Space you will be greeted by a usher who will give you a service bulletin that has all of the readings as well as information about what is happening in the church. For ease of following worship, we project the songs and readings but also announce page numbers for those who prefer to use the prayer book and hymnal. When you come forward to receive Holy Communion, you will be guided by the ushers to the round communion rail where you may kneel or stand to receive communion.

For the Holy Communion, we welcome all who are baptized to come forward and receive. If you are not baptized or not comfortable receiving communion, you are invited to still come forward to receive a Christian blessing which allows you to participate in the whole service. If you have an allergy to wine (because we use real wine), receiving the consecrated bread only is considered communion in full and simply cross your arms over your chest so that the chalice bearer knows that you are not receiving the wine.

What books are used in Worship?

The Book of Common Prayer as well as The Holy Bible. The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) is used during service in the readings. We use weird words, so find out what they mean here:
